Professional counselling for adolescents and adults — at Tros Care, Alwarpet, Chennai.
A Space to Be Heard, Understood, and Supported.
Your mental and emotional health deserves the same care, attention, and expertise as any other part of your well-being. At Tros Care, we believe that healing is whole — and that means creating a space where your inner life is taken as seriously as your physical health.
Our Psychology & Counselling service offers professional, confidential, and compassionate support for adolescents and adults navigating life’s challenges. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, relationship difficulties, low mood, stress, questions of identity, or simply a sense that something is not quite right — you do not have to work through it alone.
This is a space built on trust, warmth, and genuine care. You are welcome here exactly as you are.
Ms. Priyadharshini Selvakumar
Psychologist | MSc (UK) | BSc First Class with Distinction
I am a psychologist with a background in both clinical and applied psychology, trained in the UK and India. I hold an MSc in Psychological Wellbeing in Clinical Practice from Manchester Metropolitan University and a BSc in Applied Psychology with First Class Distinction from Sri Ramachandra Institute, Chennai.
Over the past two years, I have worked with individuals across complex and often challenging life circumstances — including mental health difficulties, trauma, crisis support, and psychosocial care. My experience spans direct clinical settings, multi-agency environments, and community-based support, giving me a broad and grounded understanding of what people need when they are struggling.
I work with adolescents and adults, and my approach is warm, structured, and led by you. I use evidence-based methods — including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and biopsychosocial formulation — adapted thoughtfully to each person I work with. I believe in asking the right questions, listening carefully, and helping you find clarity and a genuine sense of forward movement.
I am a queer-affirmative psychologist. I am committed to providing a space that is safe, inclusive, and free from judgement — for every individual, regardless of their identity, background, or circumstances.
At Tros Care, I offer short-term, goal-focused counselling — typically across 6 to 7 sessions — designed to help you understand what is going on, build on your strengths, and move forward with confidence.
Clinical Supervision
I receive regular clinical supervision from Dr. Muralidhar Kannan, MD, a Board-Certified Psychiatrist with dual certification in General Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine, based in Dallas, Texas, USA. With over 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Kannan brings a depth of psychiatric and specialist expertise that supports the quality and safety of the care I provide at Tros Care.
What is counselling?
Counselling is a confidential, professional conversation between you and a trained psychologist. It is a space where you can speak openly about what is troubling you — whether that is stress, relationships, identity, difficult emotions, or something you have never quite been able to put into words — and receive thoughtful, non-judgmental support in return.
It is not advice-giving, and it is not a lecture. A counsellor will not tell you what to do or how to feel. Instead, they will help you explore your own thoughts and feelings more clearly, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop practical strategies that actually fit your life.
Many people in India still wonder whether counselling is really ‘for them’ — or whether seeking help means something is seriously wrong. It does not. Counselling is for anyone who feels overwhelmed, confused, or who simply needs a space to think. Reaching out is not a sign of weakness. It is one of the most self-aware things a person can do.

What your sessions look like
Each set of sessions is unique to the person — but here is what you can generally expect across our time together.
-
Your first session — getting to know you We begin by understanding what has brought you here. You are welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with — there is no pressure. This session is about your story: your background, your life, and what matters to you. It is also a chance for you to get a feel for the process and ask any questions you have.
-
Exploring the picture together In the sessions that follow, we look more closely at what you are experiencing — the thoughts, feelings, situations, and patterns that are causing difficulty. We explore not just the surface concern, but the fuller picture of what lies beneath it.
-
Building tools and strategies Together we identify what helps, what gets in the way, and what practical approaches might work for you. This might involve exploring thought patterns, improving how you communicate, setting personal goals, developing coping strategies, or simply learning to understand yourself more clearly.
-
Putting it into practice Change does not only happen in the session room — it happens in the moments between sessions too. We track your progress together, refine what is working, and continue to build on your growth. Progress is rarely a straight line, and that is completely normal.
-
Closure and reflection Our final session is a moment to look back at how far you have come. We consolidate what you have learned, acknowledge your progress, and make sure you feel genuinely ready and equipped to move forward independently — carrying with you everything we have worked on together.
Sessions are typically 50 to 60 minutes and offered across 6 to 7 appointments. Both in-person sessions at our Alwarpet centre and online sessions via video call are available.
What you can expect to gain
Clarity and self-understanding
Leave sessions with a deeper understanding of yourself — your patterns, your triggers, your values, and the experiences that have shaped you. Self-awareness is where meaningful change begins.
Practical tools for everyday life
A genuine sense of forward movement
Counselling is not about fixing everything. It is about helping you feel less stuck, more capable, and more at ease within yourself — so you can face what life brings with greater confidence.
This is a space for everyone.
I work with adolescents and adults from all backgrounds, communities, and walks of life. I am a queer-affirmative psychologist — meaning I actively affirm and respect all gender identities and sexual orientations, and I understand the specific experiences and mental health challenges that members of the LGBTQIA+ community may face.
You do not need to explain or justify who you are here. You are welcome exactly as you are.

Frequently asked Questions
No referral is needed. You can contact our therapy centre directly to book an appointment. If you are already seeing another doctor or specialist at Tros Care, they can also refer you — but it is entirely optional.
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication. A psychologist works through talking therapy — using structured, evidence-based approaches to help you understand your experiences and develop coping strategies. Both are valuable, and they often work together. If medication is ever needed, we will facilitate the right referral.
Yes. Everything you share in counselling is strictly confidential. Your information will not be shared with your family, employer, or anyone else without your written consent. There are a small number of exceptions — for example, if there is a serious risk to your safety or the safety of someone else — and these will always be explained to you clearly before you begin.
Sessions are structured as a short-term course of approximately 6 to 7 appointments. This is enough time to meaningfully address most concerns in a focused way. If you feel you need more support beyond that, we will discuss this with you and explore the best options together.
That uncertainty is completely normal, and you are welcome to come for a first session with no commitment. A first appointment is simply a conversation — it gives you the chance to meet your psychologist, ask questions, and get a sense of whether this feels right. There is no pressure to continue if it does not.
